Compare Fujitsu Scanners – 6670 vs 6670A | 6770 vs 6770A

How to decide if the Fujitsu “A” version is the right scanner for you!

The information below will help consumers better understand the difference between the following Fujitsu scanners.

  • Fi-6670 vs Fi-6670A
  • Fi-6770 vs Fi-6770A

We are asked time and time again to describe the difference between a Fujitsu Fi-6670 & Fi-6670A document scanner.  We are also asked this same question about the Fi-6770 & Fi-6770A scanners.  To determine if the “A” version is the right scanner for you we have to talk about the documents you are scanning.

Let’s talk about the 6670 VS the 6670A Fujitsu scanners. Once we break down the differences the same applies to the 6770 & the 6770A scanner.

The Fujitsu 6670 ships with a software package called Kofax VRS Professional.  The VRS is (Software VRS) and requires you to install the Kofax VRS on your OWN PC.

This software VRS version of Kofax is a tool that is bundled with every Fujitsu TWAIN Scanner in one form or fashion IE Version (Basic, Professional or Elite VRS).  The software is a great tool for allowing users the ability to automatically run numerous image processing enhancements while scanning.

Some of these enhancements are;

  • Crop and Deskew
  • Edge Cleanup
  • Automatic Color Detection
  • Color Smoothing
  • Auto Brightness (Analyze Color, Ignore Pictures)
  • Detect Page Size
  • Intelligent Rotation based on text orientation
  • Delete Blank Pages
  • Improved Text Recognition
  • Bar Code Reading

Now for the differences; if you had to run all of these processes on your PC in order to scan color documents, documents with back ground colors, three hole punched documents or mixed front and back side documents in the same batch the PC could be tasked with keeping up with the scanner. Today’s new computers could get the job done with no problem but in most cases the PC will be tasked and not be able to keep up with the scan speeds of the Fujitsu 6670 or Fujitsu 6770 scanners thus slowing down the scanner even to a point the scanner may stop scanning in order to allow the PC time to catch up before sending more images.

To resolve the slow PC cache problem Fujitsu and Kofax introduced a hardware version of the Kofax VRS Professional/Elite software so the introduction of the “A” version was released.  The “A” version Fujitsu 6670A & Fujitsu 6770A has an embedded SCSI or USB Adrenaline card on the document scanner.  No need to load software on your PC or a license key for the Kofax VRS software.  All of the licensing is held on the scanner Hardware Card.  This would allow users the ability to scan with all or most of the image processing enhancements of the Fujitsu 6670A & 6770A scanner without tasking the PC and allowing the scanner to run in most cases at Rated Speed.

The Kofax VRS Software will work on any and all in production document scanners at this time.  To review the list of scanners and type of Kofax Software available for your scanner visit the Kofax Web site Scanner Configurator link provided http://scadmin.kofax.com/KCSearch/ or call us at Scanner One, Inc. to answer your Kofax or Fujitsu 6670/6670A, Fujitsu 6770/6770A scanner questions.

Canon Discontinues Two More Document Scanners

Canon recently announced the discontinuation of the following two document scanners:

  1. The DR-2510C document scanner
  2. The Mac compatible DR-2510M scanner

I have personally been waiting for this to happen for over a year now. It did not make since for Canon to have multiple scanners by the same model number for the PC or the MAC environment. The only difference was the “M” after the model number for the MAC users. It was confusing for the buyers to determine the difference and what model to purchase.

Canon makes the purchase of a MAC scanner much easier now by introducing two new document scanners.

The Canon DR-C125 and the Canon DR-C130. These two scanners plus the Canon P215 will work on PC and MAC. Now Macintosh users have a suite of scanners ranging from 15 pages per minute to 30 pages per minute. The new Canon C125 and C130 reliably converts paper-based documents into high-quality digital images, and its compact footprint makes it ideal for any office environment be it a PC environment or MAC environment.

Canon C125 and the Canon C130 specifications:

  • Document feeder capacity of approximately 30 to 50 sheets
  • Fast Duplex Scanning (Double Sided at the same time)

  • Plastic Card Scanning on the C125 (Medical Cards, Driver’s License)
